Partnered with Lukas Daniels
From Inception to Final Product
We had significant difficulty coming up with a good project idea to do that would involve both the machines in the lab and recycled materials. In the end we decided to go with a more basic concept that would still be very useful. Lukas had some scrap plywood that he was able to bring in so that we could design and build a unique recycling bin. We decided that two of the sides would have a vinyl decal design while the other two sides would have similar but slightly different laser engraved designs. My main task was the vinyl decal sides so I went through and designed them within illustrator with a fairly basic design that can be seen below in the process. It did not take multiple iterations for me to be happy with the final project. I also designed the laser side files in Illustrator to compensate for Lukas bringing the materials. He did do the laser engraving itself though. The laser engrave file can be seen below. After these files were complete I continued on through the process shown below to finish my portion of the project.

In Conclusion
This project was a culmination of many things we had learned throughout this semester. While my skills did not really improve with using the machines and software since it was all things I had done before, I did improve in other ways. We found a way to utilize multiple machines and implement them all into the construction of one project. I think that we were both fortunate and unfortunate that we did not run into any problems in making the recycling bin. We somewhat missed out on any extra learning opportunity that would've been achieved through problem solving. Overall though I am very satisfied with our final product.
